To elaborate a Grand Vintage, only grapes with the potential to produce wines with finesse and ability for long aging are selected. The blend for 2004 is 50% Chardonnay from the Cote des Blancs (Mesnil sur Oger, Chouilly, Vertus), 40% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims (Mailly, Bisseuil) and 10% Pinot Meunier (Cumières). Only the first pressing (the cuvee) is selected. After bottling the Grand Vintage has been aged for 8 years in Boizel’s deep cellars before release. The robe shows a warm gold color with very fine persistent bubbles. The nose reveals a wonderful aromatic complexity and elegance. The Grand Vintage 2004 first expresses discreet notes of warm brioche and yellow peaches, then more intense aromas of dried fruits and honey. On the palate the wine is pure with a refined texture. The intensity of aromas is balanced by minerality and freshness. The final is long and elegant.
