Clos de Los Siete's Michel Rolland Interviews With Debra Meiburg MW

A winery that releases only a single wine sounds unusual, but that’s the case for Clos de los Siete, the Argentina producer that does exactly that. The winery is the brainchild of Michel Rolland, who immediately fell in love with Argentina on his first visit in 1988. After searching for a while with Jean Michel Arcaute, a winegrower from Pomerol in the Bordeaux area, he found an ideal plot of land about 100 kilometres south of Mendoza, at an altitude of 1,100 metres.

Malbec, which is the king of all grape varieties in Argentina is an obvious choice for the main grape. To add complexity to the blend, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and a little less Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc are used alongside.

Today, Clos de los Siete is the #1 Malbec blend exported from Argentina and all vintages have consistently received critical acclaim. A vibrant ruby red colour, the elegant blend offers amazing aromas of blackberries and plums with spicy floral notes. On the palate, it is balanced and fresh with a pleasant acidity characteristic of the vintage, giving it an excellent capacity to age.
