Agusti Torello Mata
About Winery

Agusti Torello Mata has a reputation as one of Spain’s foremost Cava producers. The stated goal is “to make Cava with soul” working with only the traditional grapes. All of the fruit utilized is at least 30 years of age. Approximately 20% of the production is exported to a total of 31 countries.

Agusti Torelló Mata was born into a dynasty of tailors and musicians, but went into the world of cava at a very young age, a world that turned into his profession and his passion. Pioneering, passionate and tireless, he created in 1953 the first wine analysis laboratory in the industry, managed important wineries in the Penedès region and set up his own cava winery in 1959. Due to his enthusiasm and vision of the viticulture industry, he soon became a reference point in the internationalization of cava. It is in this spirit that he fostered the creation of the Cava Guild, which acknowledged his work by appointing him President of Honour some years ago.

Agustí Torelló Mata’s cava winery is in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the capital of cava and the heart of the Penedès region. Located in the central coastal area of Catalonia, this region lies very close to the Mediterranean Sea.

Agustí Torelló Mata’s cava is the result of a personal commitment. The commitment of a family and a team who make possible, year after year and harvest after harvest, the miracle of creating internationally renowned cavas with a unique personality.Born from the best Penedès vines, Agustí Torelló Mata’s cavas respect their land, local varieties, soil, climate, process and traditions. These cavas develop through excellence. They convey their spirit. They are cavas with soul.

Alex and Gemma Torelló

The fine reputation of the estate and Agustí Torelló’s great work continued to grow into the 21st century, today the winery is still incapable family hands, managed by his four sons: Agustí, Gemma, Alex, and Lali. They have expanded their estate’s holdings to 35ha of organic vineyards and also buy in fruit from over 100 ha to cover their requirements. Their range of Cavas includes dry and very dry, low dosage styles, focusing solely on growing the indigenous varieties of the area with impressive results. All their Cavas are excellent, but the star of the show is undoubtedly their cuvee prestige, Kripta. The packaging is enough to cause a stir, a distinctive, amphora-shaped bottle with avant-garde label design.
