UOB Wine Regions of the Month - FEBRUARY 2023

Delve into our new UOB Wine Regions of the Month series, giving all UOB Wealth Banking, Privilege Banking and Privilege Reserve Clients special discounts on selected wines!

For February, we turn our attention to Spain. From the Costers del Segre, the vineyards of Cérvoles Celler occupy around 55 hectares and are divided into twelve plots with vines mostly of Garnacha, Tempranillo,  Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Macabeu and Chardonnay, planted between 1970 and 1989. The Colors range is an accessible way to taste their wines - think the voluptuous Cervoles Celler Colors Blanc 2019 with intense aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple and white peach and Cervoles Celler Colors Red 2020 featuring hints of red berries and juicy black and well integrated tannins.

Over at Penedes, we have Agusti Torello Mata, a family-owned producer of traditionally made Cava from estate bottled fruit, highly regarded by some of Spain’s most famous restaurants. The Cava Agusti Torello Mata Brut Reserva 2018 is a fresh and smooth cava with stone fruit notes: green apple, peach and nectarine while the Cava Agusti Torello Mata Rose Trepat 2019 takes up notes of strawberry, wild berries and cherries. Both are ideal for appetizers, salads, starters and fresh cheese, and particularly puff pastry sweets.

From Priorat comes the multi-award winning Josep Grau Viticultor, named after the the winegrower and oenologist who has an obsession with making the best single-vineyard varietal wines that are authentic and exciting. All rated 90 points and above, you'll want to try wines like the Josep Grau Viticultor Granit White 2021, a fresh and lively Garnacha blanc with natural aromas of apple, pear, white flowers, fennel and a light citrus touch. The Josep Grau Viticultor La Florens 2020, made with Garnacha Tinta, is also bustling with red and forest fruits (cherry, blackberry, pomegranate) - spicy, balsamic and with Mediterranean touches.

Finally, we have Celler Pinol from Terra Alta, a family of vine growers for four generations. They make a lovely sweet white wine (Celler Pinol Josefina Sweet White 2016) with Garnacha, with exceedingly complex taste reminiscent of raisins, marzipan and honey cakes that you can pair with blue cheese, foie gras, and desserts. We also like the Celler Pinol L'Avi Arrufi Red 2018, a Guarda wine with an intense ruby-red color, a lively edge, a powerful, ripe aroma, fine creamy notes (cocoa) from the oak, a background of ripe fruit and minerals.
