La Guiraude is simply a tête de cuvée, a barrel selection made only in the appropriate vintages, where it is felt that there are some barrels that exhibit particularly intense and age-worthy personalities. Not necessarily a 'better' wine than the Domaine Crozes, it is certainly more powerful and in need of greater cellaring. The 2015 Guiraide is much deeper and more structured wine. Savoury and long, it has great depth of dark cherry, iodine and resinous fruit and sappy, sticky tannins that will need time to resolve. One for the cellar!
Alain Graillot has been producing wines reflecting his integrity and high standards since 1985. Born in the Northern Rhone, he left to pursue a career in business, but returned home to his dream of creating great wines. Without the opportunity of stepping into an existing family winery, Alain undertook formal studies in Burgundy while seeking the guidance and inspiration of the best of the new generation of winemakers including Jacques Seysses of Dominique Dujac. He has now some 15 ha in Crozes-Hermitage itself as well as 1 ha in St-Joseph. He matures his red wines in one year old french oak barrels from Burgundy.
