The Wine
Alain Graillot is arguably one the finest winemakers in the Rhone Crozes-Hermitage region. On a cycling holiday in Morocco, he discovered vineyards along the Atlantic Coast, in the Atlas Mountains. In spite of only 20 hectares of vineyards, it is relatively cool climate thanks to the ocean breezes and an altitude of about 500m. The vines' aged between 10-40 years old. There is no use of herbicide or fungicide treatment to the vineyard. All the work is done by hand, which reduced damage to the grapes and resulting in an elegant yet intensely concentrated Syrah. Farmed organically, Alain crafts this wine as a fruit-forward Moroccan red, yet it is made in an old-world style with moderate extraction, excellent balance, and complex aromatics. Plenty of ripe purple black fruits and dried cherry followed by sandalwood, herb and spice. Finish is dry, long and classical.

Alain Graillot has been producing wines reflecting his integrity and high standards since 1985. Born in the Northern Rhone, he left to pursue a career in business, but returned home to his dream of creating great wines. Without the opportunity of stepping into an existing family winery, Alain undertook formal studies in Burgundy while seeking the guidance and inspiration of the best of the new generation of winemakers including Jacques Seysses of Dominique Dujac. He has now some 15 ha in Crozes-Hermitage itself as well as 1 ha in St-Joseph. He matures his red wines in one year old french oak barrels from Burgundy.
