Les Terrasses wine is made from grapes that come from nine different Priorat towns: GratallopsPorrera, Torroja, Scala Dei, Les Vilelles, Bellmunt, El Molar, El Lloar and Poboleda. The vines range in age from 62 to 92 years old, planted in plots with predominantly siliceous slate soils and ecologically cultivated.

When the clusters reach the winery, they are destemmed and gently squeezed to begin alcoholic fermentation in concrete and wooden vats, with native yeasts and regular cap plunges. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in wooden vats and barrels and ages for 12 months in barrels.

Les Terrasses is a red wine from the renowned winemaker Álvaro Palacios that captures the personality of the steep slopes of Priorat. It carries the concentration and character of the old vines it is made from and has the winery’s characteristic elegance. An essential for wine lovers.

  • lively, brilliant, bright cherry red coloured robe with a violet rim.
  • As elegant as ever, but even more characterful than in previous vintages. This old-vines Grenache and Carignan carries some fragrant balsamic aromas, floral nuances and some vegetable aromas. Slowly, as the wine opens, we are presented with pleasant toasted notes alongside hints of bramble and damson, underscored by some deep mineral and earthy undertones.
  • Tight, focused and nicely textured. Some delicate balsamic notes, mineral underones, marked fruits (berries), and sweet spices. Ripe, sweet tannins, lively acidity and a remarkable freshness. This red wine of Álvaro Palacios has a long finish that is persistent, and leaves mineral notes and mid-level toasted sensations on the palate.
Alvaro Palacios

Alvaro Palacios comes from a prestigious wine family, from La Rioja. He could have secured a prime position in the family winery, the world famous Palacios Remondo. However, being the dynamic visionary that he is, he decided to go out in the wine world and make his own way. He studied enology in Bordeaux and had the enviable job of working under Pomerol superstar Châteaus Pétrus winemaker Jean Pierre Moueix. When he returned to Spain, he founded his own winery in 1989 in the Mediterranean wine region of Priorat, south of Barcelona in Tarragona. Together with respected winemaker René Barbier and a few others, they ventured on what has been called the “Gratallops Project”, named after the scenic Priorat village where the wines are made. The group bought the vineyards together and shared vinification facilities until they each set up their own estates. His aim, it is widely said, was to make a wine somewhere in between Ch. Pétrus and Grange. That is a tough order to fill, but he has achieved phenomenal praise for his three wines, Finca Dofí, L’Ermita, and Les Terrasses. Alvaro, along with Peter Sisseck at Pingus in Ribera del Duero and Telmo Rodriguez in Toro wines, is considered to be the “new generation” of Spanish winemakers. His wines have won him cult status, and are absolutely salivated about in the wine mags. John Radford, the Spanish wine specialist, says: “To sum up: Les Terrasses is excellent, Finca Dofí is outstanding and L’Ermita is unbelievable”.
