Arcanum Toscana 2017 is a distinguished red wine from Tenuta di Arceno, an estate located in the heart of Tuscany. It is renowned for its complex and elegant structure, with a blend predominantly made from Cabernet Franc, a variety that thrives in the estate's terroir. The wine expresses the essence of Tuscany's sandy and clay-rich soils, combined with optimal vineyard exposure, producing a wine that reflects the region’s unique climate and history.

Arcanum is the estate's flagship wine, offering a rich and sophisticated profile that balances intensity and finesse. The 2017 vintage benefits from ideal growing conditions, with cool evenings and warm days that allowed the grapes to ripen evenly, resulting in a harmonious blend of fruit and spice notes. This wine is an excellent representation of the terroir and winemaking expertise of Tenuta di Arceno, and it has the potential to age gracefully for many years

  • The wine opens with complex aromas of ripe blackberries, cherries, and currants, followed by subtle herbal notes of sage and tobacco. Hints of vanilla, toast, and spice add depth to the bouquet
  • Full-bodied and well-structured, Arcanum offers flavors of dark fruits, such as black cherry and plum, complemented by earthy undertones of leather and mineral hints. The blend of Cabernet Franc and other Bordeaux varieties gives it a smooth, elegant texture with finely integrated tannins
  • The wine has a long, refined finish with lingering notes of dark fruit and spice, along with a slight touch of oak that adds a layer of complexity
Lawrence Cronin

Growing up in New York City, Lawrence Cronin was always aware of his Italian heritage. His mother’s family goes back hundreds of years in the small town of Castellammare del Golfo, a picturesque fishing village on the northwest coast of Sicily. Visits to the old country during his youth made the relocation relatively seamless years later when Lawrence moved to Tuscany to make wine at Arceno.
Lawrence began his professional winemaking career in 1995 at Edmeades Winery in the Anderson Valley region of California’s rugged Mendocino County. Prior to joining Tenuta di Arceno, Lawrence also worked at a number of other prominent wineries worldwide including Firriatto in Sicily, Cloudy Bay in New Zealand, Cape Mentelle in Australia and Calina in Chile.
Lawrence was hired as the winemaker for Tenuta di Arceno in 2002. With guidance from Vigneron Pierre Seillan, he has helped elevate this historic estate into the upper tier of Tuscan producers.
