Chateau Jean Faure was purchased by Decelle Oliver in 2004. Part of the reason for purchase was, the estate came recommended to Decelle Oliver, by the noted, Left Bank consultant, Jacques Boissenot. Decelle Oliver is well versed in Bordeaux wine making as he also owns Chateau Haut Ballet in the Satellite appellation of Fronsac and he has property in the Medoc as well, Chateau Haut Maurac.
The 18 hectare, Bordeaux vineyard of Chateau Jean Faure has a terroir of gravel, sand and clay soils. The vineyard is planted to 54% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 6% Malbec. Chateau Jean Faure is an interesting right bank estate, due in large part to the vineyard cepage. Chateau Jean Faure has one of the largest concentrations of Cabernet Franc and Malbec planted in the entire Bordeaux appellation. The vineyard of Chateau Jean Faure has old vines that average close to 40 years of age.
