Pieropan, a growing legend in Soave
Since 1890, passion is the link between the 5 generations that have worked at the Pieropan family estate. Dedication to the land, love and devotion to the vine are the values which characterise the resulting wine, made with an open approach towards learning and development. With over 100 years of winemaking, the estate has evolved through different approaches without loosing its traditional values.
The estate is located in the heart of the medieval village of Soave, a small commune of the Veneto region in the Province of Verona in northern Italy. The vineyards are nearby, on south/south-west facing hill sides with a variety of soils guaranteeing rich, yet fine and elegant wines.
Today, the estate is managed by the 6th generation. For many years, Leonildo Pieropan managed the estate, and in doing so helped preserve the huge quality of Soave, all this while many producers released simple, inexpensive versions that too often typified this lovely Italian white wine. Thanks to Pieropan and a few others artisans, Soave could still be characterized as one of Italy’s finest whites, one that could age for a decade or more when treated in a proper fashion. Today his sons Andrea and Dario continue their father’s passionate work not only with Soave, but also with a few local reds such as Valpolicella and Amarone.
Recently, Tom Hyland, wine writer for Forbes, has conducted an interview with Andrea and the resulting article in definitely worth reading.
