A cold winter with bountiful rain allowed the vines to rest and the ground water to replenish. The rain carried through into spring and summer, posing a challenge for flowering, but ultimately moderating the warm summer temperatures. Fall consisted of beautiful warm days and cool nights, allowing for a balanced development of the fruit. The blocks for this Gran Selezione were picked at optimum ripeness from the 18th of September to the 1st of October.

The 2019 Strada al Sasso is characterized by a soft velvet structure with strong savory, mineral aspects. On the nose, the wine exudes notes of cypress, violets, and ripe black cherries. The tannins are soft and elegantly intertwine with the vibrant acidity. The palate delivers bright strawberries followed by clove and licorice spice. The wine concludes with hints of cinnamon and its classic orange peel signature finish.

  • Deep red color
  • The wine demonstrates a playful banter between fruit and herbal tones with aromas of ripe cherry, violets, cedar and herbs jumping out of the glass; it shows a wine that is savory with soft fruit around a twisting chain of acidity
  • The palate follows with flavors of blueberry, vanilla bean and sweet mint, with bright acidity still carrying the tasting experience. Soft tannins bring the finish to tones of white pepper, black licorice and Tenuta di Arceno’s signature orange peel
  • Braised Wild Boar
  • Roast Chicken
  • Tortelini Bolognese
Lawrence Cronin

Growing up in New York City, Lawrence Cronin was always aware of his Italian heritage. His mother’s family goes back hundreds of years in the small town of Castellammare del Golfo, a picturesque fishing village on the northwest coast of Sicily. Visits to the old country during his youth made the relocation relatively seamless years later when Lawrence moved to Tuscany to make wine at Arceno.
Lawrence began his professional winemaking career in 1995 at Edmeades Winery in the Anderson Valley region of California’s rugged Mendocino County. Prior to joining Tenuta di Arceno, Lawrence also worked at a number of other prominent wineries worldwide including Firriatto in Sicily, Cloudy Bay in New Zealand, Cape Mentelle in Australia and Calina in Chile.
Lawrence was hired as the winemaker for Tenuta di Arceno in 2002. With guidance from Vigneron Pierre Seillan, he has helped elevate this historic estate into the upper tier of Tuscan producers.
