Kamptal, Austria

Kamptal is a small and increasingly prestigious wine district located 55 kilometers northwest of Vienna in northern Austria. The vineyards are steep, sunbaked, and sparsely soiled in terraces overlooking the river Kamp. Kamptal produces some of the world's finest white wines from rich spicy Grüner Veltliner to flinty Riesling. With an area of 3,907 hectares under vines, Kamptal boasts a great number of outstanding producers of top quality wines. Of particular significance is the 270 million years old perm-desert sandstone with volcanic elements on the Heiligenstein.
