Toro, Spain

Tempranillo reigns supreme in Toro, offering a new expression of wine comparable to the Ribero del Duero or Rioja. And as with many Spanish wine regions, Tempranillo goes by its local name here: Tinto de Toro, so don't be confused when you see a different name on bottles. Tinto de Toro wine is dark, sleek, and richly muscular (much like a Spanish bull), though Toro does also produce some rosé, or rosado wine made from a blend of Tempranillo, Grenache and occasionally Malvasia. White wine grapes Verdejo and Malvasia are also grown here. Toro’s summers are generally short, but during this season it becomes one of the hottest and driest wine regions in Spain, with only 350-400mm of rain each year and temperatures pushing 40°C.
