Syrah IGP from Yves Cuilleron is made from grapes grown on single parcels near the village of Chavanay, where St. Joseph and Condrieu. These plots are either on the lower or the upper part of the slope, which is not classified as AOC. They have to settle for the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes. But since both places offer sandy layers mixed with sediments that are perfect for Syrah, Viognier or even Gamay, producers like Cuilleron can make extremely exciting wines from there! The name "Les vignes d'à côté" means something like "the vineyards next door", and alludes precisely to the fact that they lie just outside the AOC, as immediate neighbors to it.

Cuilleron's IGP vineyards are cultivated with the same care as in the major appellations. During the summer, a green harvest is practiced, where the bunches that are not fully developed are removed. A few weeks before the harvest, part of the leaves on the vines are removed to give better exposure to the sun. The harvest is done manually and the grapes are carefully selected. The grapes are de-stemmed and masticated, and fermentation takes place in open fermentation vessels for a period of approx. 2-3 weeks with the grapes' natural yeast. The wine is then matured for 7 months in equal parts tanks (20-30 hl.) and barriques of 228 l. The wines from the different parcels are blended together just before bottling.

Syrah IGP has a nice aroma with nuances of ripe, red fruits and a full and meaty style in the taste. It already gives a lot in its youth and finishes very delicately in the mouth with notes of fresh spices. It should be served at 12-14 degrees and will go well with starters with pâtés, smoked ham and other cold cuts.
